A New Day

awaken to the sun
streaming through my second story window
multicolored shards penetrate my eyelids
remind me of the extra-large Crayola box
Jean brought the first day of school
showing off to the rest of the class
“My parents are richer than yours”
we could only afford the sixteen sized box
I ignore her message
move in my own world
swathed in love and light from Mother Earth
I live life fully and happily
